Alert! Vets Warn About Treats Poisoning Pets

"Petco, one of the country's largest pet retailers, announced Monday that it has pulled all Chinese-made dog and cat treats from its shelves, citing concerns that the foreign made pet foods could be linked to a series of yet unexplained sicknesses and deaths among pet dogs in the United States. The move, the first by a national pet store, comes despite the FDA's inability to tie the illnesses specifically to Chinese-made pet foods. And there's reason to believe it might signify the beginning of a swift industry-wide precautionary movement away from such imports."   Source:  The Washington Post January 6, 2015

And yet,  recently, a coworker's young dog experienced kidney failure and found out that these treats are still in the stores for sale! Even though they may say "made in USA" the ingredients may still be sourced in China and merely assembled here.

The Fine Print - please read carefully

2. In order to qualify for a discounted animal communication reading/class for yourself, you must purchase at least one gift reading/class. Payment for both must be made at the same time. 

3. All gift purchases must be made by December 20, 2016 and must be used by December 20, 2017.

4. It is not necessary to purchase a discounted pet reading/class for yourself in order to gift someone else.

5. It is permissible to purchase multiple gift readings.

Since our dogs are family, we think it’s only appropriate that they should join us on trips to the store, hotel, and restaurant patio. Its the perfect time for your family to adopt a new pet from Orange County's OC Animal Care, the county run animal services center.  Adoption fees will be waived for qualified applicants.

Based in the city of Orange, the OC Animal Care is county run, and has been operating at over 95-percent capacity for nearly a month, since they took in a large quantity of rabbits from an area residence.

The facility is currently housing approximately 630 animals.

According to the shelter, that is over 200 more animals than the services typically works with.

“High numbers of animals increases the impact on the physical and mental health of shelter animals,” Dr. Jennifer Hawkins, director of OC Animal Care said. “By removing fee barriers to adoption and encouraging visitors to the shelter, it is our goal to unite adoptable shelter pets with families.”

On October 25, the Orange County supervisors agreed in unanimous vote to authorize OC Animal Care to waive adoption fees anytime its animal population grows more than 80 percent of capacity. The free fees will continue until it drops below 60 percent.

Adoption fees normally average $167 for dogs, $171 for cats and $77 for rabbits.

That cost covers spaying and neutering animals, veterinary services, implanting and registering microchips, and administering vaccinations.

Take note, even with the fee waiver, adoptive families of their new pets will still have to pay for a rabies-vaccination certificate to the tune of $27.

No animals can be surrendered at the shelter until the number of animals in residence drops back to 60-percent.
