Resolve Issues with Love, Not Fighting

Hanson is a 2-1/2-year-old rescued Pug, who is blind in one eye and both of his ears are torn.  My client has had him since he was about 1 year old.  He has leash aggression but loves people and is fine off-leash. They had 3 cats before adopting Hanson and after some time, seems to be adjusting fine with them.  They say he is housebroken but continues to pee in the bedroom and office.  So, what is going on with Hanson?

Frances:  Hi Hanson – how are you?

Hanson:   I’m ok, why?

Frances:  Your mom asked me to talk with you, is that ok?

Hanson:  I guess so.  Oh, oh, what did I do wrong now?

Frances:  Why do you think you did anything wrong?

Hanson: Well, I know they get mad when I pee in the house, is that it?

Frances:  Now that you mention it, why do you pee in the house?

Hanson:  I guess for a couple of reasons.  First, I like getting everyone’s attention and second, it’s cold and wet out sometimes but it’s warm inside.

Frances:  Isn’t it nice to have a warm house that doesn’t smell like pee?  Is that any way to show how grateful you are for your mom and dad bringing you into their home?

Hanson:  Wow when you put it like that, I suppose I have been kind of a brat, haven’t I?

Frances:   Yes, I would say so.  Do you know this is your forever home?

Hanson:  I hoped it would be, but I wasn’t sure.  Thank you for telling me that.  I guess I really should be nicer to them and not pee inside the house.

Frances:  Yes, I’m sure they would appreciate that very much.  When you are out on a walk, why are you so aggressive while on the leash?

Hanson:  I want everyone to stay away from my people – they need to know I will fight them off – all of them.

Frances:  In the place you were at before did you have to fight everyone off?

Hanson:  Yes, and I might be small, but I can fight pretty tough.

Frances:  I’m sorry you had to fight for yourself before you came to this loving home.  They prefer to resolve issues with love, not fighting.  Can you consider that the other dogs and people are friends first, instead of enemies?

Hanson:  I never thought about it that way before.  I thought everyone was an enemy first – that’s what I always was taught.  You mean everyone else isn’t an enemy?

Frances:  That’s correct – consider that everyone else is a friend – unless they do something to make you think otherwise.  People, dogs and cats – they are all friends, unless they do something to make you feel uncomfortable like they want to hurt you. Can you try that?)

Hanson:  I suppose I can.  Seems like it would take less energy than always being ready for a fight.

Frances:  Exactly, you can relax and enjoy your walks instead of being tense and ready to fight.  I think your life will have more joy and fun if you look at life this way.  What do you think?

Hanson:  I think you may be on to something.

Frances:  Good, you can practice by being nice to your housemates – the cats.  Let them be and they will let you be.  Make sense?

Hanson:  Yeah, I think it does.  Wow, what a whole new way of thinking.  Thank you for sharing that with me.

Frances:  You’re very welcome, Hanson.  Is there anything you want to tell your mom and dad?

Hanson:  Thank you for bringing me into your home.  I guess I haven’t been very nice to you in respecting your home.  I will do better.  I may need some reminders now and then.  I really do love you and thank you for all you do for me.  I like the idea of not fighting like I had to before coming to your home.  This lady told me to think of everyone as friends and I never thought like that before.  I think I can do that, too.  I guess that’s all I have to say.

Frances: Thank you, Hanson.  I will be talking to Mom later today.  Bye for now.

Hanson:   Bye and thank you for talking to me.

Frances:  My pleasure, Hanson.

To encourage Hanson to pee outside, realizing that the patio is a cold cement, I suggested placing a rug runner that could be hosed down and his feet won’t be cold when he steps outside.

"My Spirit is Light and Happy"

My client contacted me regarding her elderly parents’ dog Minnie, a 15 year old rednose Pitbull. They were planning to have her put down the next day. Minnie is her dad's world, but she has gotten to the point that she has many health issues and can no longer get up on her own. She is too big for her dad to pick up anymore and they feel it is time but need to hear some heartfelt words from Minnie.

Frances:  Hi Minnie – I understand you are not feeling well and it’s hard on your mom and dad.

Minnie:  Yeah, I know.  They are having a hard time letting go and please let them know I am ready to go.  My physical body is ready to leave – it’s so heavy for me to carry around. My spirit is so light and happy to be able to be released.  Please tell them I love them so much and appreciate all they have ever done for me.  I will love them forever and always be in their hearts.  If they want to spread my ashes in our regular walking path or in the ocean or on a mountain top – it doesn’t really matter to me.  It’s very symbolic, but not really necessary as I will always be there as they grieve.  I will hear them and see them so they can talk to me any time they like.  I won’t be there to eat the food and make a mess for them to clean up, but they have those memories to last a lifetime!  Just trying to make them laugh a little bit.  I will not be upset if they decide to adopt another rescue pet when they are ready.  They have so much love to give to another animal that is so desperate for a home – a loving and caring home.  I will forever love them and please tell them they are doing the right thing.  They can sleep well without feeling any guilt as I am ready to go.  Thank you for doing this for them – I really appreciate your work with us animals.

Frances:  My pleasure Minnie – safe travels.

P.S. I spoke to my client, and she thanked me for the message – she knew exactly the path in the backyard where the ashes will be spread.

Summertime Adventures!

It’s almost summertime and for the first time in years I am going to go on a vacation – a real vacation!  I’ll be gone for almost two weeks and my first concern is:  who is going to take care of my two cats?  I have been planning this trip for a very long time – a 10-day cruise through Italy, Greece, and Croatia.

Will my cats miss me?  Of course, they will.  And I will miss them.  We have our morning and evening routines – each cat has her special spots to pet, places to rest and one always licks the spoon after I clear the cat food can.  My friend will be here to stay with them and enjoy the quiet that my home provides.  She has been here a few times and they know her sounds and smells and she has a very calm soul.

One of my cats, Ollie, is very curious once someone is here long enough to allow her to come up to them without moving.  Sage watches from afar and that is usually from under the comforter (her happy place when anyone else is in our home).  They know something is up as the items to be packed are gathered all over the bedroom and the suitcase is out.  I tell them (as I tell my clients to do too) that I will be gone but my friend is coming to stay with them so they will be just fine.  I tell them how many times the sun will go down until I return.  They will be in their home with their favorite toys and lots of their favorite food to eat.

Hope your summer includes some fun and adventures, too for you and your furry friends.

Spring is a Time for Renewal

March reminds me of spring and flowers, walking in open fields as a child, before the building of all the homes around us. Sometimes reminding myself how lucky I am for my health and happiness is the best thing to do for my mental health. A recent client’s message from her pet who had crossed over was very appropriate for me too.

"What is missing in your life that you can do for yourself? Where would you like to visit? Imagine yourself there and if it brings a smile, make plans to visit. What activities make you smile? Do those activities.

Allow yourself the child-like wondering, questioning – why, who, where, what? Not in a critical or negative manner, but in a curious and wonderment sense. Follow your dreams, and go into the crystal caves of wonderment of nature. Bathe in the energy of the natural wonders of the world. Your energy needs the bolster, and those places need to be energized with your energetic being. Go with friends or make new ones along the way.

You are a loving being who deserves to be surrounded by other loving beings – two-legged, four-legged, winged, or in the sea. Wherever, with whoever you choose. Bring smiles and laughter into your heart. Seriousness and worry for loved ones have its place in this world, but you don’t have to carry that with you 24/7. The path for you is you and your lightness, loving and caring for yourself. Have fun, life is about fun and smiles. Time to remember what brought you joy as a child and be the child again.
"

Doesn’t that sound like a great way to look at life? I think so.

Love is in the Air!

Darwin and Magic – A  Love Story

I was reading for Darwin, nine-month-old, male black Standard Poodle.

Darwin asked me: “Why do I go in different cars with different people? Why can’t I stay with mom and dad? Don’t they like me? I love them very much and I want to be with them, play with them, and sleep with them. I would like a playmate like me – that looks like me and acts like me. I need more attention; everyone’s so busy – what about me? I want to play and walk around the block to see the kids play – maybe they’ll play with me too. My food is good, my toys are great – I love my house and my mommy and daddy.”

Two days prior to meeting with Darwin, I received an email from Magic’s mom that she needed to find a good home for her. Magic is a year old, female, black Standard Poodle. When I was reading for Darwin and he said he wanted a companion that looked like him, I told him I knew someone, but I had to talk with mom first. After the reading, I told his mom about Magic and gave her the contact name and number.

Two days later they had a play date and both Moms emailed me pictures – they got along so well, like they had known each other forever. A few days later they met again, this time with Darwin’s trainer – who said that, yes, they were “soul mates”. Magic moved in that day. A few weeks later I met with them to ease the transition, to be sure everyone was ok. Darwin came up to me to see if I was going to take Magic away – I assured him she was there to stay.

A note from Darwin's Mom:
"He is so in love, she is amazed at how wonderful her life is.
Darwin says, “Thank you, thank you, thank
you”
every time I see him!

"Special thanks to my friend, Frances Greenspan, Animal Communicator. She is the one who connected Magic to her new family, especially a darling, male standard poodle, Darwin, who was looking for a playmate who looked just like himself. Well, they both are darling together! Animal Communicators rock!

"My sweetie-girl, Magic, is now the Queen of Newport Beach and beloved of King Darwin. How magical is this, that two dogs can call in their heart's desire, only to manifest with the help of an excellent animal communicator.  Now that's heavenly co-creation!  Thank you again, Frances!"

Happy 2023!!!

You’ve probably heard of the “mean girl”.  Well, this time it is the “mean cat”.  Sally pounces at her two female feline housemates every day with no provocation.  I asked her why she does this and here is a bit of our discussion:

Sally:  I can’t help it if I like to pick on them.  It’s just my nature.  I’m the mean cat.

Frances:  I don’t believe that one bit, Sally.  You can make a choice.  Every minute of every day you can make a choice to be a better kitty to your housemates.  Nicer to yourself even.  You don’t have to wear the badge of the mean cat.  You are choosing to do this, and Mom needs you to change that badge.  This is hard on Mom due to her health situation, and it would benefit her and yourself to make that change.  Kelly and Lisa don’t deserve the brunt of your bullying.  They have done nothing to you to cause this.  Don’t blame them for anything that happened to you in the past.  Move on and take in the love this family has for you.  Open your heart and I bet you will be very surprised by what happens – in a good way.  What do you think?  Does this make sense to you?

Sally:    I understand what you are saying.  I wish I could believe it is that simple.  I have not been able to trust anyone, people or cats, in my entire life, until now.  Mom and Dad are great, I do trust them to some extent, but I’m always waiting for the next thing to happen, to show me the good life I have now is going away.  I still have that fear, you know?

Frances:  Yes, honey, I do understand that fear.  Let me tell you what that stands for:  false evidence appearing real.  It is your mind telling you things will get worse without any evidence to back it.  You are working on old patterns that you no longer need to hold on to.  Your life today is nothing like it was before.  Look forward, and expect better and better, not worse and worse.  I know this is easy for me to say but give it a try.  You can start with minute-by-minute.  Then hour-by-hour and day-by-day.  Think of every time the sun comes up, it is another chance to make a decision to be a happy, loving, and gentle cat to show your family, human, and feline that you can do this.  I know you can do this, Sally.  I have faith in you, and I know your Mom and Dad do, too.  Does this make sense?  Can you do this?

Sally:  You make it sound so simple.  I know sometimes I feel bad when I have picked on Kelly.  I don’t know Lisa well enough to know if I even like her or not.  She hisses and stuff, so I just keep doing my stuff with her.

Frances:  You do realize she does the hissing because you do your stuff to her, right?

Sally:  Yeah, I guess if I stop then she probably will stop too, right?

Frances:  Yes, that is how it works.  You be nice to her, and she will learn she can be nice right back to you.  One step at a time.  Every day is a new day to practice being nice.  This is the best for all involved in your family, you do realize this, right?

Sally:  Yeah, I see this now.  I guess I just have to give it a try as you say.

Frances:  Thank you, Sally.  It will get better every day, I promise.  I will be talking with mom in a little bit.  Anything you want to say to her?

Sally:  Sorry for being such a mean cat to the others.  I guess I am just afraid that things will not last as good as it has been since coming to live with you.  I know now that Frances says it’s my mind saying it won’t last, I can practice being nice and accept it for what it is. I am happy with you and Dad and even the other cats.  I guess I was afraid I was being replaced with the new ones coming in.  I know I came after Kelly, but I still felt like maybe I could replace her somehow.  I don’t know, I guess my mind was doing funny stuff and I was acting on it by being mean.  I will do my best not to be mean but be nicer and nicer each day.  Wow, this sounds like a big deal, doesn’t it? I do love everyone here and want to do better, I really do.

Frances:  Thank you, Sally.  I’m sure Mom and your family will appreciate you much more when you relax and enjoy your life without fear.  I’ll be talking to Mom soon.  Bye for now.

Sally:   Bye and thank you again.  This is a big step for me.

Frances:  You’re very welcome, and yes, it is indeed.

A recent client was fostering a 3-year-old very overweight cat.  She was not using the litter box to poo, only to pee.  This was part of our conversation:

Frances:  I understand you don’t go poo in the litter box.  Why is that?

It’s hard to clean up after myself and I don’t like licking the litter off my fur.

Frances: I get it that you are having problems, Is it due to your size?

Yes, I’m fluffier than most cats.

Frances: Yes, but I suspect that it isn’t just fur, correct?

Yeah, I like to eat.  Hey, it’s all I got, you know?

Frances:  Well, maybe you can play around a bit to work it off?  Run after a feather on a stick, yarn ball, mice or a fluffy ball?

I suppose so, but I can’t do it alone.

Frances:  I’ll talk with your foster mom about your activity level.  You’re so young and have such a wonderful life ahead of you.

Why do you say a wonderful life?  It hasn’t been all that great so far.

Frances:  Ah, but that is the difference.  Your life ahead will be so much brighter, just waiting for the perfect home for you to present itself.  In the meantime, do you have any requests for your forever home.

Oh, I would love to be in a house with activity, to see people moving about so I can watch them.  I’m not really crazy about dogs or kids, they are too unpredictable, and I don’t trust them.  An older person or couple works too – I like to watch TV with them and hang out in the living area.

Frances:  Do you ever look outside to watch the birds or the critters on the ground?

I do, but since I can’t go outside, what’s the point?

Frances:  Well, there is lots of activity to watch if nobody is home to watch.

Yes, that’s true, I suppose I could do more of that to keep me busy.  I’m a bit bored and I think I eat when I’m bored.

Frances: That’s very common for people too.  We’ll see what we can do to get you more activity and maybe lose that extra fluff.  In the meantime, please use the litter box for your poo too.  It is helpful for you to be consistent and cleaner in order to find your forever home.  That’s important to you, right?

Yes, of course – I want to find a forever home.  I will do my best to poo as you say, in the litter box.

Perhaps this is a reminder for all of us not to overindulge during the holiday season.  Stay safe and enjoy your holidays.  Looking forward to a joyous and prosperous 2023!

Our health and habits are sometimes displayed by our pets – to show us what we are experiencing or what we are doing to ourselves. During a session with two cats, one of them said his mom (my human client) needed to put her feet up and be treated like a princess.  She was someone who needed to be catered to instead of her doing it all herself.  The cat felt sad that he couldn’t do this for his mom.  I later found out from my client that she had hurt her ankle and had to elevate it on a regular basis.

Another session was with a two-month-old puppy who was being fussy with his food and potty habits.  His mom (my human client) was having difficulty sleeping through the night as he was waking her up to go outside at all hours of the night.  She was concerned he had to go potty each time, yet he just wanted to play with the night critters.  During our session we spoke of having consistent feeding times, quantity and quality of the foods, including limiting the treats for good behavior.  I suggested since his trainer was using treats as a praise method, she opts to use his regular kibble instead of the variety of treats.  He is young and his tummy is sensitive to the various types of treats.  His system needs to be trained for eating, exercising and potty times to help his tummy be regular and allow her to hopefully sleep through the night.  A few days later my client realized that not only had she been indulging her puppy with all sorts of treats, but she was also doing the same thing to herself.  This was a big awakening to her as she realized she wasn’t treating herself with healthy options and this could also have been a contributing factor to her lack of a good night’s sleep.  Our pets are our mirrors to help us learn and grow together.

Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving to you and your furry friends.

Letting Go

Annie is an older cat who had surgery for GI cancer and follow-up chemotherapy treatments.  My client was concerned as the treatments would leave her sick for two weeks followed by a second treatment just a week later.  She was not seeing the benefits of continuing this treatment and wanted to know what Annie wanted her to do.

Frances:  Hi Annie – how are you?

Annie:  Oh, I’m okay, I guess.  I know mom is concerned about me and how I am feeling.  This isn’t easy on either of us.  I know she is doing everything she can to keep me going. Please let her know that I love her very much and appreciate all her efforts to keep me here with her.  I want her to know that it is time for me to stop the treatments and let me go on my own time.  Nothing they do is going to help keep me here forever – we all have to go some time, right?  So let me go when it comes my time, without the treatments so I will be more aware of my surroundings and not be sick from the treatments.  I’m not ready to go yet, but just know when it is my time, there will not be a question unanswered.  You did everything right, you are the best mom I could ever have had and I will always be in your heart.  Please enjoy the time we have left together without being sad or disappointed as we have had a good life together to remember.

Frances:  Thank you, Annie.  I will be speaking with you and mom later today.

Annie:  Ok, thank you for talking with me.

Frances:  My pleasure, Annie.

Enjoying Summertime with Furry Friends

It’s summertime, fun and travel time.  Ever wonder what your pets think about those who care for them while you are gone?  Or when they are in to get pretty or handsome at the groomers?  Recently I spoke with Fannie, a 12-year-old poodle mix.

Frances:  Your mom is concerned about leaving you with your sitters when she is gone.  Do you mind them watching you?
Why can’t I go with mom when she leaves?  Why do I have to stay here?

Frances: Sometimes mom takes trips that dogs can’t easily go on.  She will take you when she can, but only if she can.  Do you have a preference of your sitters Dick and Jane? [not their real names]
I like when Dick comes because he sits with me for a while.  He lets me do what I want and gives me treats.  We go outside when it isn’t too hot, and he doesn’t get mad if I pee in the house.  Jane is fussier.  She doesn’t like to clean after me and my messes.  She makes me go outside when it’s hot and doesn’t pay attention to how hot the ground is.  Sometimes I feel like my pads are burning but she doesn’t seem to notice as she is looking at the thing in her hand the whole time.

Frances:  (I think she is pre-occupied with her phone.)
I shared this with my client, and she confirmed that Dick is a bit older and does like sit around, not that mobile and gives Fannie treats.  Jane is a younger woman who is always on her phone.  One time Fannie threw up and she called my client in hysterics that she had to clean it up.  Whoopsie, guess we know Fannie’s preference.

My client also asked about the groomer as she was very stressed when she was in the car knowing she was going to the groomers.  Fannie told me she didn’t know who would be doing her grooming, some are not as careful or nice as others.  This stressed her out.  Their previous groomer was no longer available so she is now looking for a quieter situation, single groomer so Fannie will know who is taking care of her needs.

Frances:  Would you like to play with other dogs?
Not really, I’m good on my own.  I’m not really much of a “dog” dog, I like people better.

Frances:  I understand that, Fannie – I tend to like dogs more than some people, too.

Enjoy your summertime with your pets and watch out for the hot surfaces when walking outside and please never leave them in the car unattended even for a few minutes.

Enjoy Your Furry Friends

Last week I had an animal communication session with a cat who was near the end of his time here.

When I asked him what he wanted he replied:
“Sometimes I think it would be easier to not be here anymore, but I do enjoy mom’s love and attention.  I am still able to eat and enjoy that quite a bit.  If I ever stop eating that is a clear sign I don’t want to continue and please help me along to my exit.”

My client laughed and said as a treat for him she would feed him his favorite cat food, the less expensive but tasty ones.  Food is one of their favorite things in life – love and a roof over their heads follow closely behind.

Years ago, I had a client who wanted to know if her dog Lucky who was deaf and blind, was ready to go to heaven.  I asked him and he said, “No, the food is too good.”  Little did I know she had specially marked meat in the freezer with his name on it.

Enjoy your furry friends all the time you have with them as they pack a lot of love in that short time with you.

Pets are Like Children

Our pets are like children, they watch us and sometimes their brains don’t understand all the complexities about adults. When we are affectionate to our partner we may have sounds or actions that can sound or look like we are being hurt. We know this isn’t the case, but to a pet or a child, this can be very scary. They may be in protection mode or run and hide. If they can do that to him or her, what will happen to me? I’m so small, who’s going to protect me? Who can I trust? Best they are not placed in this situation when they are young or if a relationship is in the early stages. Pets get very confused about who they can trust, and this can then be projected to others who they thought they could trust. Assure them your partner is a good person by including them in quiet times, walks, throwing the ball and words – yes, they do understand your words.

You may not hear their responses like I do but be assured they understand your words and your kindness. You are all they have – be kind.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

When couples decide to go their separate ways, they can talk it over – sometimes calmly, sometimes not – but what do the pets go through?  How do they know what is going on when their mom and dad go to different corners?  Why aren’t they together?  What did we do to cause this?  Pets (as well as young children) don’t understand the complexity of relationships, nor should they necessarily need to know all the details.  They just want to know “what about me”?

I recently spoke with a client going through this very situation and she asked me to speak with her two dogs, Sarge and Little Man – two male greyhounds, 7 and 5 years old respectively.  Sarge is the strong stoic one who doesn’t show much emotion.  Little Man is the sensitive guy who shows his concerns very vocally.

Frances:  Mom and dad are not going to live together and mom will be living someplace else.  It’s nothing you two did to cause this, it is something that humans sometimes go through.  Does that make sense to you?

Sarge:  Yes, but what about us?
Frances:  That’s what I want to talk to you each about individually ok?
Sarge:  Yeah, I guess so, but we will listen to each other too.
Frances:  That is perfect.  So Little Man I want to start with you, ok?

Little Man:  Ok – but am I staying with dad or mom?
Frances:  Which would you like to stay with?
Little Man:  If I stay with mom, will I never see dad or if I stay with dad, will I never see mom?
Frances:  You tell me what you would like, that’s why I am talking with you.
Little Man:  I love dad but I’m more close with mom – she understands me when I get scared and she knows how to comfort me.  I know dad loves me, but mom understands me more.  I don’t want to hurt dad’s feelings and I will miss Sarge, but I really want to be with mom.
Frances:  Thank you, Little Man, I know that is hard to say to me and I appreciate you telling me your feelings.  In case it happens where dad wants you to stay with him, will you be ok with that?
Little Man:  Yes, of course, I know he loves me and I love him too.
Frances:  Would you want to visit with mom or dad depending on who you stay with?
Little Man:  I would as long as it isn’t hurtful to either one to see each other.
Frances:  Little Man, you are so considerate of their feelings – I’m so honored to be talking with you.  You are much more mature than many humans, do you know that?
Little Man:  Well, I never really thought about that, I just know being kind and loving is all I know, I’m very blessed.
Frances:  Yes, you certainly are blessed with two loving people who care for you very much.  Anything you want to tell mom and dad?
Little Man: Please tell mom and dad I love them both very much and I’m sorry you are going through this situation.  I am grateful for you choosing me to be in your family and will always remember the good times.  Whatever happens I want you both to be happy and I will be happy with whatever you decide.
Frances:  Thank you, Little Man. Sarge it’s your turn.

Sarge:  Ok I’m ready, so you want to know what I want?
Frances:  Yes, please share what you would like.
Sarge:  I would like to stay with dad since we were together longer, I feel he is my person.  I understand Little Man wanting to be with mom, they really did bond from the beginning.  Dad will be ok with sharing him with mom – I think so anyway.  I’m sorry they have to go their separate ways, but whatever makes them happy.  Dad and I have been on our own before, so we’ll be fine.
Frances:  Would you be ok if Little Man stayed, and mom left?  Can you be the head of the household to protect everyone?
Sarge:   I do that now, no big deal here.  I love mom and all, but I realize things don’t always last forever – I just want them happy.  I want everyone to be happy.
Frances:  Thank you, Sarge.  Is there anything that mom can do to make it easier on you?
Sarge:  Mom is great – she is always thinking about others.  I would like her to take care of herself, eat better and let’s get out and walk more.  She has been so concerned about others, she forgets to ask what she wants, what would make her happy?
Frances:  Sarge, you are so caring and loving of your mom and dad – but especially mom – I think you are right on target with your suggestions to mom.  Anything you would like to say to mom and dad?
Sarge:  Thank you for the time we’ve had together.  I love you both and understand things happen in the human world that we don’t really understand, but you are both such good people.  I just want both of you to be happy and if going your separate ways does that, so be it.  I love and always will, regardless of who lives with who.
Frances:  Thank you, Sarge for your kind words.  I will be talking with mom shortly and we can talk more then.  Bye for now.

Both:  Bye – thank you for talking with us.
Frances:  You’re both very welcome.

Happy Valentine's Day!

With the changes in our work situation over the last two years, our pets have gotten pretty spoiled having us around 24/7.  Now that many are going back to work or school, the pets don’t understand why we aren’t there to be with them as much anymore.  They like all the attention, affection and let’s face it – snacks to keep them occupied while we tried our best to be productive on the computer, zooming with the boss, teaching a class.  They just seem to say: What about me? I’m here, I’m cute, I’m bored…. I’m, I’m, I’m.  Yes, very self-centered – it’s all about me.

I had a recent client session with her cat, Kizzy, who normally was just perfect with the litter box.  Suddenly she pooped on the home office Persian carpet – in front of her son, yes – not hiding it or sneaking in, nope, very deliberately.  And then it happened again – no accident, so what’s up with that?

Can you tell me why you pooped on the Persian carpet?
Ha – got their attention, didn’t I?  Nobody is around like they used to be, they just leave us here by ourselves.  Why can’t I go anyplace besides the vet?  Why are they leaving so much?

Ok, so you are feeling neglected, really?  You have clean litter boxes, good food, a roof over your head and this is how you are showing your appreciation?
Well, when you put it that way, I guess I am a bit harsh.

Yes, ungrateful I would call it.  The world outside of your house has been going through a time when most people had to stay home.  That’s why your mom and dad were home most of the time.  Now the world is safer, and people can be out and about.  This is true for your mom and dad.  Dad is on a business trip and will return on Sunday – two times the sun goes down.  Mom has returned to her school schedule.  Does this make sense to you?
Yeah, I can see when they were here a lot – I really liked that.  I could be by there side all day long.  I miss that but I guess they didn’t want to do that as much as I did.

They love you to be by their side when they are there, but not whine about them not being there or poop on the rug.
Please tell them I’m sorry to upset them.  I guess I didn’t know how to tell them that I miss them being there as much as they had been. I know I can’t go places with them, I just love them so much and want them near me as much as possible.

Thank you, Kizzy – I will be talking with mom soon.
Thank you for talking with me.

You’re very welcome, Kizzy.

Happy 2022!

Happy New Year to you all.  I am so excited to greet 2022 with hope and optimism that it will be healthy, safe and prosperous for you and your furry, feathered and scaled friends. Last year brought a new reality of normal to many – including new pets that got used to mom and dad working from home.  For rescued pets who had a life before they came to live with you, they have their experiences, fears and expectations to overcome.  Abandonment is a very scary thing and now that many of us are working from home, they expect us to always be by our side – like 24/7 – or fear you are never coming back home.  This was part of a recent reading with Frankie.

Hi Frankie – how are you?
I’m ok I guess why?

Mom asked if I would talk with you, is that ok?
I guess so, why?

Do you know how much your mom loves you?
Well, I think I do but I get scared when I don’t see her.

That’s what I want to talk about.  Mom will always be there for you.  This is your forever home.  I understand you had a dad but he’s not there anymore.  This had nothing to do with you.  Sometimes humans stay together and sometimes they don’t.  It’s a human thing.  But you will always stay with mom.
 Are you sure?

Yes, Frankie I am sure – she loves you very much – that’s why we are talking.  I will talk to mom on how to tell you when she leaves where she is going and when she’ll be back.  She will always be back but sometimes she may go for a few days.  Humans need to do that sometimes.  But you will always be cared for and have food in your tummy.  Does that make sense?
I am afraid she won’t come back. Thank you for explaining it to me.  My last family just packed up and left and I was on the streets looking for them.  I didn’t understand how they could just leave me.

I’m sorry that happened to you.  Sometimes humans have things happen in their lives and they may not think of all the details.  I’m sure they didn’t mean to forget about you but may have been struggling in their lives.  Your mom now has a wonderful extended family who love animals like you and would never let anything bad ever happen to you.  I promise, they are very good people.
Thank you, I was afraid I did something bad, so they didn’t want me anymore.  I was afraid I would do the same thing with mom, and she would get rid of me too.

Is that why you whine in the car?
Yes, I’m afraid she’s going to drop me off someplace and not pick me up.

Mom will never do that to you.  I will talk to her about how to share with you where you are going so you don’t have to be anxious in the car.  It can be a fun adventure instead.  Seeing new places and new people.  Just know that you can’t go everywhere with mom.  Dogs aren’t allowed everywhere, and mom needs to be able to go out and have fun with her friends, right?
Yeah, I guess you’re right.  I was so afraid she didn’t want me or wouldn’t come home to me.  Now I know she will, but I need to know all the details, so I won’t worry so much.

Yes, Frankie, I will explain to mom how to tell you all the details you need to know.  Some things are human things and won’t make sense, but you will know what you need to know – each and every time she leaves the house, ok?
Thank you, oh that makes me feel better already.  I can relax more and play more.  I was almost afraid to play in case I did something wrong, I love mom so much, I don’t want her to be mad at me.

You don’t have to be afraid of mom getting mad, no matter what you may think you did wrong, mom will always be there for you and love you. Anything you want to tell mom?
Thank you so much for bringing me to your home.  I love you so much and was afraid you would leave or take me someplace to drop me off and not come back.  I can relax now and open my heart fully.  I was holding back just in case you didn’t love me like I love you.  Now I can love you even more!

You are so sweet, Frankie, yes now you can love even more with no fears at all to hold you back.  I’ll be talking with mom shortly and we’ll talk more, ok?
Ok, thank you for talking with me.

You are very welcome, Frankie – my pleasure.  Bye for now.
Bye.

Happy Paw-lidays!

 Wishing you a Paws-itively Perfect

Holiday & New Year

Rescued pets have a special place in my heart.  They are sometimes fostered in various homes or taken from a home for unforeseen reasons.  They aren’t included in the details of what happened and why they are no longer staying in this home, with this mom or dad.  They react as scared beings as though they are just expected to pick up their life where they left off – but they have fears and feelings like we do.  Consider the understanding at the child-like level where they are unsure of their surroundings or the people who are now in their life.  All the love in the world can’t help or fix their fears – that’s where I come in and explain and answer their questions.  I hope I can help your rescued pet one day.

Here’s a bit of Rudy’s story:
Rudy is an 8-year-old Tibetan Spaniel who was surrendered to the shelter with no history.  He was adopted 3 months ago by his new family and is very timid and hides in the closet when he is afraid.  They love him very much and want him to be happy.  Here is a portion of our conversation, and a bit of a revelation of his past.

Hi Rudy – how are you?
I guess I’m ok why?

Your family asked if I would talk with you, is that ok?
I guess so but who’s my family?

The nice people who you are living with, who feed you and pet you and love you.
So, am I staying here?

Yes, honey this is your forever home.  This family loves you and will take care of you forever.  Does that make sense?
I suppose so.  I wasn’t sure why I was here, but I do like them.  Sometimes things are a bit loud and so many different things going on.  I kind of wish it was quieter.  I like the quiet.  I get very scared with so many people moving around me.

I will let them know so maybe being more aware of that can help you settle down and relax more.
Thank you that would be helpful.

Do you miss your previous home?
Yes, very much.  My mom was an older lady who didn’t come home one day so I was taken away.   [I feel she was hospitalized and then passed away.]

I’m sorry that happened.  I’m sure she loved you very much, but life happens out of our control sometimes.  You now have a loving family to care for you and love you.  Are you ready to open your heart to them?
Yes, thank you for telling me that.  I guess I thought maybe I did something wrong, so she left me.  I was sad thinking if I did it again, they would abandon me too.  I’m feeling better now that you let me know I didn’t do anything wrong.

Slowly but surely, you will get more comfortable with your new family and surroundings.  Allow them into your heart.  You can trust them.  They will not hurt you.
Oh, I am so glad you talked with me.  I’m feeling better already.

You’re very welcome, Rudy. Just take it one day at a time and ease into your new loving family. Ok?
Ok bye.

Animal Communication Tips

I love working with clients that are new to the idea of animal communication.  Sometimes the response is they just want to know if they are “happy”.  I believe our pets are more than one-dimensional; they have wants and needs, fears and joy, they have preferences and desires.  Are they “happy”?  All they really want is love, food, and a safe place to put their head at night.  Are you giving them this? Then yes, of course, they are going to tell me they are “happy”.

When speaking with the animals it is helpful if you have specific questions. Is your pet a rescue? What was their life like before they came to you?  Sometimes this brings answers to curious questions and sometimes it can be very eye-opening to understand why they do certain things.  One client had a dog who wouldn’t join her and her husband on their bed at night.  The closest he would come to that was laying on the chair near the bed.  I asked their dog why and he said he was reprimanded so badly from his previous owner that he was afraid of that happening again.  I assured him that would never happen again with this family – they welcome him to join them.  He was hesitant but was assured he was safe in his new forever home.

Has anything changed in their surroundings in the past few months?  Are you now going back to your office, no longer working from home?  Many people adopted pets during the pandemic, only to realize their pet has never seen them leave their house for extended periods of time.  As a rescue, the fear of abandonment is real.  Where are you going?  How long are you going to be gone?  Why can’t I go with you?  Consider their feelings and questions in their minds. Just like as if you were leaving your child for the day – they want to know that you are coming back, and when you are coming back.

Just some ideas to prompt questions for you and how I can best help you and your pet.  I welcome your questions and so do your pets.

Be Good To Yourself

This is a reading for the mom of a 15-year-old dog who had passed. She was still grieving and wondering about how he was doing months later.

Here’s his message to mom:

“I know mom didn’t want me to go but my body was ready. We had such a good life together. She was so caring to me. I love her so much – even though my body isn’t there, the love for her is always there. I have lots of friends here – new ones that came at the same time I did. We all had our loving homes and like to tell each other our stories. Sometimes I check in on mom – especially when she is sad and missing me. She may feel like I am right there with her – and I am; energetically. She may sense my presence and she needs to know it really is me. Sometimes I’ll lay on the bed with her.

Please let mom know I left my body when I was supposed to – no questions about that. She did everything right so please do not feel any guilt about what was done or not done – it was all done the way it was supposed to be. I am happy and energetically healthy and one day our energies will meet again. Not in the physical body, but after that. Please allow yourself to move on and share your love with another pet if you choose to. There is no jealousy, you are not replacing me – it is just as it is supposed to be. Be as good to yourself as you were to me. Focus on your happiness and not those around you. You come first – others will take care of themselves.”

Words of Wisdom from a Poodle

Words of Wisdom from a Poodle

My clients are so amazing, both the humans and the furry ones.  The wisdom and guidance from the messages I receive, many documented in my various books, give such incredible guidance to read and re-read at different times of my life.  With my new chapter, moving to another home after 18 years, is very exciting and brings a bit of anxiety in the waiting for the actual day of the move.  My client asked me to speak with her dog. Fudge, who had crossed over a few months back, as she missed him so and wanted some words of wisdom.  I felt a very close bond with him and was happy to speak with him as well.  Here's the message from Fudge:

Hi Fudge - do you have a message for your mom?

Please tell mom the love she has been looking for is coming. It is within herself and allowing the outside energies to emerge with her gentleness. She has learned to feel the energies of those not in her best interest and embrace those who she can learn from and grow with. Some growth with others may be temporary, but have a profound impact. She has grown so much during her time of grief and learned more about herself - by herself – even if others are around her. Listen to that child within and embrace, skip and play for that child within is ready to emerge again in a powerful growth of joy. Take the proverbial jumprope and jump for your heart's content to glow and grow to embrace your life to come.

Thank you Fudge – I will read these words for my own guidance as well, you are so wise.

Yes, my dear, they are also a reflection for your new beginning as well.

Thank you, Fudge - until the next time we speak - bless you.
