My client contacted me regarding her elderly parents’ dog Minnie, a 15 year old rednose Pitbull. They were planning to have her put down the next day. Minnie is her dad's world, but she has gotten to the point that she has many health issues and can no longer get up on her own. She is too big for her dad to pick up anymore and they feel it is time but need to hear some heartfelt words from Minnie.
Frances: Hi Minnie – I understand you are not feeling well and it’s hard on your mom and dad.
Minnie: Yeah, I know. They are having a hard time letting go and please let them know I am ready to go. My physical body is ready to leave – it’s so heavy for me to carry around. My spirit is so light and happy to be able to be released. Please tell them I love them so much and appreciate all they have ever done for me. I will love them forever and always be in their hearts. If they want to spread my ashes in our regular walking path or in the ocean or on a mountain top – it doesn’t really matter to me. It’s very symbolic, but not really necessary as I will always be there as they grieve. I will hear them and see them so they can talk to me any time they like. I won’t be there to eat the food and make a mess for them to clean up, but they have those memories to last a lifetime! Just trying to make them laugh a little bit. I will not be upset if they decide to adopt another rescue pet when they are ready. They have so much love to give to another animal that is so desperate for a home – a loving and caring home. I will forever love them and please tell them they are doing the right thing. They can sleep well without feeling any guilt as I am ready to go. Thank you for doing this for them – I really appreciate your work with us animals.
Frances: My pleasure Minnie – safe travels.
P.S. I spoke to my client, and she thanked me for the message – she knew exactly the path in the backyard where the ashes will be spread.
For the Love of Animals,
Frances
