My new dog is acting funny after a surgical procedure......

Castle is an Austrailian Labradoodle.  He will soon be a year old.  We have only had him for a couple of weeks.  There are 3 other dogs in the home.  Last week he had a procedure on his vocal cords and he has been acting funny.   We want to know how he is feeling.  

Hi Castle, how are you?

Oh I guess ok.  

Can I talk with you?

Yeah – what about?  

I understand you are in a new home – what do you think?

I don’t know – how long am I going to be here?  Why did they take me to the doctor and cut me?  Are they going to do this again?  Why did they do this to me?  

Castle, this is your new forever home.  The procedure was necessary – but you will not have to do this again.  Your family has invited you into their beautiful home.  They are a loving family and you are now a part of their family.  You now have 3 other dogs to play with and a family to feed you and make sure you have a long, healthy and happy life.

So they aren’t going to give me back if I get into trouble?  

(No, honey, but hopefully you will not get into trouble on purpose right?)  

No, of course not – but I have to learn their rules – I don’t know them yet and I’m afraid I’m going to do something wrong and they will give me away like the other family did. They said I got too big and I had to go.  I couldn’t help that I’m a bigger dog – they thought I would be a lap dog – well I was when I was a puppy – but they should have looked at my feet – I guess they just didn’t know better. 

I’m sorry that happened to you  with the other family – but this family love you just as you are.  They welcome you with open arms and want you to be happy.  Is there anything you would like to tell them? 

Please tell them I am happy they chose me and I will not disappoint them.  I will be a good dog – just please don’t take me back to the vet and leave me there.  

Honey they will only take you if it is absolutely necessary for your health.  They want you to have a healthy long life with them. 

OK – just checking.  They are very nice and the food is really good.  I think it is the best food I have every had.  I’m still sore, but when I get get better I would like to run – in a park if I can – I like running free – but I will come back to them – now that I know they are my family – thank you for telling me.  I was afraid this was just a stopping point until I healed.  I was afraid to heal completely because I thought that’s when I thought I would have to leave.  I feel so relieved that I can begin to heal properly and learn to be happy again – to love again – to be a puppy again without fear of what will happen to me.  Thank you for talking with me – this has really made me a happy dog. 

You’ are very welcome Castle.  Enjoy your life with your new family and I will talk to your mom very soon.

During the call  the client was amazed that Castle came and sat with them – this is something he had not yet done.  He was keeping a distance so he would not get too close – physically and emotionally – as he thought this was just a temporary home for him.

I had to put my pet down - will she forgive me?

Q:   My beloved fur baby’s name is Cheyenne. She is a lab/pit mix.  She passed at 13 years old. I'm having a real hard time. The vet I took her to told me to put her down because she was in so much pain it was hard  for her to walk. I went outside to get my brother so he could say good bye and when we went back in to the room the vet had taken her in the back and I never saw her again !!! I wasn't with her till the end . ...My question is .....DOE SHE KNOW ? And will she ever forgive me ?

Frances:  Our pets know our intention, whether we are in the same room or the same dimension – they are with our spirit telepathically.  They know we love them – no regrets.  Cheyenne had a wonderful life with you and allowing her to cross over peacefully was the humane thing to do.  Remember the happy times, remember them in your heart.  Please do not have shrines of her around your home.  Have a special corner with a picture or her ashes when you feel the need to take a moment.  Talk to her, she hears you – whether out loud or in your thinking voice.  Know that she is at peace and wants you to be as well.  The love never dies – it lives on in your heart.  She wants you to share that love with another pup that needs rescuing – when you are ready.

What is a Telephone Reading?

If you are not sure how a telephone reading works, here is a brief overview, and also answers to some commonly asked questions.

Telephone readings are the same as those when your pet is in the same room with me…as it would be when I tune in to those pets that have crossed over.  I am tuning in to your pet’s energy telepathically and hearing the dog's thinking voice to my thinking sound.  Many times their voice sounds like the owner’s voice or accent. 

I speak to animals for clients in Japan - whose language is Japanese - but using telepathy I hear their responses in English and speak to the animals in English - yet they hear the information in Japanese (or “dog” language) – I don’t really know!

Contrary to popular belief I do not require the pet to be physically present. There is a misconception that I somehow read the information from the pet in front of me or even their picture, which is not true – it is as said previously, telepathically.

When people sit down with me, I immediately advise them not to be put off by the lack of sound when I am tuning in to their pet.   The pet and I are in conversation and I will share what I receive when we are finished with the topic at hand.  Sometimes I close my eyes to not be distracted by those around me.   I need to focus on the pet, in the way one would pay attention to any conversation.

During a phone sitting the pet gives me the information to pass on to you, just as they would if you were in the same room, except that I am relaying the message to you via the telephone.

This is very obvious when you think about it; how can being in the same room as me make a difference to your pet who is communicating with you through me?  Especially for those pets who have crossed over – they are just so happy to give their message to you – my physical location is completely irrelevant.

I ask that you write questions for me so you have them ready for the appointment. I will need the name, type of animal (breed), sex, age (or if they have crossed over), how long you have had them, and if there is a particular concern or question I can answer when I first tune in.   It is best not to have any noisy distractions that will be annoying to your pet, or to you.

Phone sittings are a convenient way of avoiding traffic and travel time, and you can (hopefully) relax afterwards.

Whiskers, is very creative with her food.  She likes to create portraits in her kibble.  These have just started to appear in her dish within the last few months.   

Whisker’s auntie Lisa thinks that the one on the top looks like her with the big hair. Someone else said it looks like lil orphan Annie.  Some pre-teens we polled thinks the two on the right look like the evolution of Michael Jackson's style!

Why does my dog act funny when the handyman comes to my home?

 

Our pets know the character of the people who we bring into our lives. They will react differently to those they approve of and those they don’t. Many times the pet will act uncharacteristically with this person – aggressively if they are normally docile, quiet if they are usually talkative – these warning signs are for you to pay close attention to this person. Do they have your best interest at heart?

The pets are able to sense if a person is good or bad for you in your home.  If someone is in your home to do repairs, the pet may be very protective if they sense danger from this person.  It may be an unsaid word, the smell (one pet didn’t like the smell of the repairman – the client indicated the man wore the same clothes day after day), the way the person looks at you when you are not aware (but the pet watches every move).  The pet may try to give you warnings with their actions – to keep you aware of their uneasiness with this person in your home.  Trust the pet’s instinct – they only want the best for you.

What does my parakeet think of living here with us?

The winner of the newsletter question contest has a 10 year old parakeet named Pulsipher.  She works with a parakeet rescue group and her question for him is...

"What do you think of living here with us?"

Pulsipher is thankful to have a caring family, he has all the comforts a bird could ask for.  He just wonders why there are so many birds coming and going - his concerned was that he would be the next one "going".  I explained to him that his family cares for birds that are in between loving homes and assured him that this is his forever home. I felt a sign of relief from Pulsipher.

Working with rescues and fostering animals is such a loving way to help those animals looking for their forever home.  Fostering takes a special kind of heart...my heart wants to take them all in...unfortunately my two cats Harmony and Itty Bitty have set their boundaries in my little condo. 

How do I keep my pets calm during the holidays?

1)       My cat goes crazy when we have lots of people at our home.  With the holidays coming up we plan on family gatherings – what can I do to avoid her getting so upset?

Animals pick up on the energy of the people around them – if they don’t know the people, they may become protective – of you and their “home”.  If you can,  separate them in a separate room, with their favorite toys, bed, food, water – or in a quarantined area where they are not exposed to the crowds.  Talk to them before the event letting them know people will be coming over and “you” will be in a nice separate area with “your” favorite things. “ Nobody will hurt us or our home so you don’t have to worry about protecting us – they are our friends.”  Reassure the pet in a calm voice, assuring them the company will be leaving and your home will return to normal.

2)      I am going away for the holidays and have to leave my dog at a kennel for a week.  I feel so guilty, what can I do for her while I am gone? 

Great question – pets can have abandonment issues – especially when they are rescues .  They are anxious if you are coming back, when you are coming back.  The night before you are going to bring them to the kennel, sleep in an old t-shirt or nightgown, don’t wash it so it has your scent on it.  Bring this item with you to be placed in the kennel with their toys, bed, food, water – the regular comforts that have their scent and now yours.  Reassure your pet you will be returning (i.e. in 7 times the sun goes down for 7 days).  They will be staying with their Aunt Susie, playing with other dogs – or whatever the situation is.  Talk to them out loud or in your thinking voice.  You may not hear a response, but they will understand you.

The winning question from last month's newsletter: Why is my dog nervous in the car?

A dog who is nervous in the car - and anxious when the owner leaves the house without them. This dog was a rescue who was "left" somewhere and the family never returned for him. Be sure to always say where you are going and assure him you will be back (i.e. groomer, daycare, aunt Susie's). When you leave the house always say when you will be back (e.i. to feed you dinner, when the sun goes down). Since they don't know time per se they know when they are feeling hungry, or are visual when it gets dark for understanding the concept of time.
